The JBuilder 5 IDE seems to be very unstable on Linux. What might be wrong?

By: Christopher Moeller

Abstract: Resolving issues related to crashes caused by not having a suitable sound driver installed on Linux.

Question:

When running JBuilder 5 on Linux, the IDE seems to be very unstable, and will crash under many different circumstances. The installation seemed to proceed smoothly, what could be the cause of the problem?

Answer:

If you install JBuilder on Linux, make sure you have working sound support on your system. If you don't, go to the "tools/ide options" menu choice, and uncheck "Audio Feedback enabled". Otherwise, the VM running JBuilder may crash whenever you do anything that attempts to play a sound.
