Happy New Year !
All of the Borland family wishes Happy New Year to our worldwide
community of software developers and computer professionals!
2001 was a trying year in many ways. A dark day in September
touched all our lives, and an economic downturn made life
difficult for many members of our community. An essayist in
The New York Times advised that the most apt resolution for
this new year might simply be "to be happy again." That is
certainly our wish for every member of the Borland Community.

Whew! What a year 2001 was. Let's have fun in 2002.
What does it all mean? I think it means that despite the
economic downturn that swept through the country in the
aftermath of the September 11 attacks, despite the "burst"
of the Internet bubble, a company can succeed by delivering
great technology and paying attention to what developers
need and want.
As we look forward to another successful year in 2002, you'll see us putting a special emphasis on Web Services, Mobile computing, .NET, J2EE, cross-platform development, and enterprise application development. Of course, we're not going to forget all of the other areas that developers are interested in.
Make sure you reserve May 18-22 on your calendar. These are the dates for
BorCon 2002 in Anaheim California. If you've never attended another Borland Conference, this is the one Borland conference that you won't want to miss.
From all of us at Borland -- and especially from Sydney Kaster and
Matthew Ellis, the newest members of the Developer
Relations staff (Sydney was born to Borland's John Kaster, Matthew was born to Borland's Christine Ellis) -- please accept my best wishes for a happy
and prosperous new year.

Vice President, Developer Relations
