aohlsson: Guys, please submit questions. We have the pre-submitted ones, but feel free to fire off more.

jkaster: lhochet, use /ask to ask questions

jkaster: we have plenty of capacity left for listening to the chat

aohlsson: You might be blocked. We will put the recorded event up later this week.

jkaster:bmcgee: "Can you comment on a publicly available Borland product road map?" - Dale: I was prepared for this question. I drew it on the white board. You can see the product roadmap on it.

jkaster: :/
jkaster:lhochet: "any possibility of opensourcing primetime?" - Dale: We're totally open to that. We're looking at feature sets that are patented that we may open source within the Eclipse world.

jkaster:trelony: "Will be there two JBuilders (traditional and Eclipse based)?" - David: There will be a JBuilder that will use Eclipse to move forward

jkaster:bmcgee: "Can you comment on the differences we can expect to see in at Borcon (DevCon) this year?" - Dale: My rationale for the name change is that BorCon became too big and diluted. We want to bring it right back to the core, which is our developers.

aohlsson: Audio answer coming right up... :)

jkaster:Zinvob: "What is being done with the speed issues in D2005. Many people are not able to use D2005 because of these issues, and the QC report has been open for several months." - David: We've done the two updates. We're working on another update with dramatic performance improvements for Delphi 2005.

jkaster:DrWho: "what is the strategy towards development shops of 2-3 developers? all talk is about large companies apparently..." - David: Our position is about development in general. Dale: That's exactly right. Everything we do is built on the foundation of the individual developer. We need to build that core functionality and focus on personal developer productivity tools.

jkaster:DrWho: "any timeframe on RAD support for .Net CF?" - David: Check EventCentral on BDN for a worldwide tour, we'll be doing technology previews. Stay tuned to Delphi team blogs as well.

jkaster inserts the following link: http://calendar.borland.com

jkaster:DrWho: "any comment on software patents laws (EU)?" - Dale: we like software patents and people abiding by laws.

aohlsson: If I made a mistake in translating to GMT, I blame daylight savings...

jkaster:bmcgee: "Seriously. A PUBLIC road map would be very useful and will help counter a lot of FUD. In the mean time, hold on to that white board. I'm on my way." - Dale: We have a Delphi 2006, Delphi 2007, we'll have a Delphi 2008 ... there's 4 years right there.

aohlsson: It will be posted as a recorded event for sure.

jkaster:bmcgee: "Speaking of small developer shops, can we expect to see more and consistent Borland support of user groups?" - David: We're going out to user groups. Anders Ohlsson is the lead person for our user group efforts.

jkaster:Zinvob: "I think that the developers could contribute with a lot of improvements to the VCL. But we are not being encuradged with slow handling of QC reports (some are never done anything with)." - David: We need to clearly identify what the process for QualityCentralis, and show people how they can get the reports they need to see.

jkaster:Zinvob: "Few people know about software assurance. This is the future, so any info on if you are going to actively inform people about this?" - david: software assurance is a way to ensure you're up to date on products. Maybe we need to communicate more details on that.

aohlsson: Recorded event will be posted later this week.

SimonK: For the audio stream, check
SimonK inserts the following link: http://bdntv.borland.com/chat.html
NickH: We want to know about a /Delphi Roadmap/.
holger: Zinvob: There is a different link that gives you audio...
holger: NickH use "/ask" :-)
RobLove: lol
NickH: The roadmap is very necessary to help draw new people and keep the old people.
NickH: I know -- I am just commenting here......
holger: I see
Zinvob: I need the link for the live sound..
bmcgee: Zinvob: SimonK posted it for you
Zinvob: Ok. Online
kgberry: If I can't get the audio for the chat to work I'm guessing that the MMS protocol is probably blocked.... or are there just too many people connected?
kgberry: Thanks Anders! Pity you guys can't just set it up with on port 80....
bmcgee: funny
NickH: Ha ha ha
lhochet: LOL
NickH: Argh!
NickH: This is so frustrating.
holger: typical CEO answer :-)
NickH: A "roadmap" is a very specific thing.
holger: exactly
holger: too specific
NickH: <sigh> Oh well.
Zinvob: Well, can't see that they will comment on the problems in D2005
Regent: hmm i'm playing with #sharpdevelop
DrWho: i think a roadmap is extremely important for the real small devshops
NickH: Zinvob -- he did comment on that.
Regent: cu all
DrWho: so i can decide where to put the money ...
holger: DrWho: if you ever need a place to spend it, contact me :-)
Zinvob: Nick: When and where?
DrWho: holger : idem ditto <lol>
NickH: He spoke directly to how Delphi 2005 was released too early. What were you looking for?
Zinvob: I came in the middle of the chat, so I might have missed that. But I was asking about what is done about the speed issues that are still there
DrWho: and that a 3rd patch is due...
Zinvob: Many peoples cannot use D2005 in the current state, and they are waiting for a third patch.
NickH: ask him about it.
Zinvob: Ahh,.
Zinvob: Finally :)
NickH: Clear, strong message about supporting developers. Very cool.
bmcgee: Nick, agreed.
NickH: Bruce, They keep doing that, but folks don't seem to hear it. Alas.
doychin: when was the interview started?
holger: hope to see you guys in germany ;-)
lhochet: doychin: 16:40 UTC
doychin: I tought it will start at 18:30 GMT
holger: no 1730 gmt
DrWho: doychin, it did...
holger: 1830 cet

NickH: I'm sure you'd love to have the VB guys. But what is going to be done!
NickH: Ouch. !
lhochet: 17:30 BST then ;)
doychin: this is from Event central
doychin: ok will there be a transcript?
NickH: YES, EXACTLY
NickH: What will be in D2006?
NickH: When is it planned to be shipped?
NickH: What is the planned feature set?
NickH: Argh.
bmcgee: I think there's a disconnect between your love for user groups and the local support we see.
NickH: Does David I really not know what a roadmap is?
bmcgee: And yes, John is in Toronto in June. Looking forward to it.
Bubba: Software Assurance -> http://support.borland.com/entry.jspa?externalID=12&categoryID=2
